SUPERCAR Thailand Championship   2010

New Season  -  New Start

The Red Road Runner Racing Team was looking forward to a new season starting on
7. May 2010 on the BIRA INTERNATIONA CICUIT near Pattaya.

One week before the race,  we went for testing on the same track to break in a new engine which hopefully give me the last little bit of
‘kick’ to be able to drive with the front runners, no expenses were spared to get this engine boosted up to its maximum power, but as the luck plays………..
No luck at all with the newly built engine…..and it went BANG! in lap number 3….!!!

On May 7, Friday, the practice session went ok and I was looking forward to Qualifying in the afternoon,
although driving with the spare engine, which is not as powerful, placing me on 5th on the grid in my class for Saturdays race.

Saturday, 8. May, 2010
I had a ‘next to perfect’ start and could overtake 3 cars in the first corner, only to lose 2 places again in the next by missing the gear.
Coming down the Start & Finish straight, braking for turn number 1, a loud bang in the engine compartment gave me goose pimples,
as it sounded like the engine wanted to jump out! I took it easy during the next turns and tried to figure out what happened.
I came to the conclusion that one of the engine mounts must have been broken, and the engine now’ jumping around’ in the front,
so managed to adjust my driving to be smooth and gentle while shifting and braking, not to lose the engine completely,
and finished a good 4th place in race one.

I had a good start again, and managed to slip by some cars in front again, and was driving in a comfortable 3rd place until in lap number 14,
coming down the Start & Finish straight again, flat out, when I realized that I had no brakes in the front….
WHAT A FEELING !!!
The next few laps taking the turns a bit slower and trying not to be caught by one of the cars behind me and losing position, I managed to nurse the car around the track with almost no brakes, but had to surrender my 3rd position to the car behind me, ending up 4th again.
All in all a very good weekend, 2 podiums & two bottles of champagne…….apart from all the problems we had.

Looking forward to round 3 & 4 on the BIRA circuit next month 26 & 27. June
and hope we have the new engine up and running, so I can finally attack the front……

SUPERCAR Thailand Championship (Round 5&6) 11./12./13. Sept. 2009

The Red Road Runner is back !!! (on the podium)

After the disappointing rounds 3&4 decision was quickly made that the ‘Red Car’ needs some serious horsepower to scope with the much faster Mitsus and the Hondas.
The man to talk to was Terry from AVO Asia Turboworld in Satthahip, who has experience to build custom engine parts and owns a dynamometer to adjust the MoTec ECU in my car,
and after a few weeks, a new air intake manifold, a new throttle body, some new injectors (borrowed from Mr. Subaru) and a swirl tank in the back with a powerful high pressure petrol pump gave the car over 30% more power and so I was looking forward to face the Mitsus and the Hondas.
Saturday saw me , after a less than average qualifying, to start from 11th on the grid and as usual I screwed up the start, and had to fight my way back to 8th place (6th in the class) and so with missed the podium by one place.
So I focussed on the Sunday Race, only to start bad AGAIN(!) dropped back to 15 from 12 th on the start and then it was fighting all the way to finish 6th overall, and 3rd in my class, giving me the first podium of the year.
I and my Team are now starting to prepare the car for the next Rounds 7&8 in Bang Saen in November and we hope that we can find another few more horsepower to drive in the front then………keep your fingers crossed!

Erster Auftritt des ‘FM Racing Team’ mit ihrem Red Road Runner

Guter Start in eine verspaetete Saison, nach anfaenglichen Problemen waehrend des freien Trianings am Freitag, Oelverlust am Differenzial und Antriebswellen, konnte ich dann den 11ten Startplatz (von 29 Startern) am Freitag Nachmittag beim Qualifying sichern. Nicht schlecht, gegeben der Umstand, dass ich das Auto bis dahin noch nicht einen Meter bewegt hatte. Ich fuehlte mich sofort wohl mir dem neuen Chassis und der Abstimmung.
Also war ich und meine Mechaniker voller Zuversicht fuer die Rennen am Samstag und Sonntag.
Ich startete am Samstag vom elften Startplatz, hatte einen mehr als miserablen Start und fand mich vom 4 Autos ueberholt am Ende der Startgeraden. Von da an hiess es ALLES oder NICHTS mit dem Endergebnis von Rang 8, nach heftigen Raederdruecken mit meinen Rennkollegen.
Sonntag, mit vollem Haus auf dem BIRA International Cicuit, hatte ich einen besseren Start von Platz 10, und musste mich dann aber wehren um diesen zu halten. Vor mir eine Schlacht von 4 Thai Fahrern in ihren Mitsubishis und Honda Civic, hielt mich etwas zuerueck, auch um das ‘nagelneue’ Auto nicht gleich zu zerschiessen, und wurde dann fuer meine Geduld belohnt als sich 3 der Fahrer gegenseitig ins AUS schossen. Nun hatte ich noch einen Honda zu bekaempfen, den ich auch dann nach 2 weiteren Runden vor Schikane 1 ausbremste, und der Hondafahrer frustriert in den Sandkasten fuhr. Platz 7 dieses Mal war zu meiner Zufriedenheit, weil mein Motor doch noch nicht so viel Power zeigte wie erhofft, aber wir arbeiten daran und hoffe, dass ich dann am 12-13. September, wieder auf dem BIRA Circuit wieder unter den ersten Drei lande. Bilder vom vor und waehrend des Rennens bitte unten ansehen.
